About the USDT to INR rate
USDT is a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar, so the USDT to INR rate closely follows USD/INR plus local demand for USDT in India. The Disburz rate comes from our payout partner and refreshes continuously; above, we compare it with the market rate on CoinGecko. The rate is locked when you confirm your sale.
USDT on TRC20 (Tron) is live today; more networks are being added. If your USDT is on another chain, see TRC20 vs ERC20 USDT for how to move it.
Why is the USDT rate higher than the dollar rate?
In India, USDT usually sells for a few percent more than the bank's USD/INR rate, because more people want to buy USDT here than there are sellers. That premium is why selling USDT can give you more rupees than converting the same dollars at a bank. It moves with demand, so check the live rate on the day you sell. Where to sell USDT in India: your options compared
There are three common ways to turn USDT into rupees. They differ most in who pays the INR into your bank, because that decides how safe the money is.
| Route | Who pays your INR | Documents | Bank freeze risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disburz (direct offramp) | Payout partner Trans Ramp, by IMPS, NEFT or RTGS, with a UTR | No documents to upload | Low |
| Indian exchange (CoinDCX, Mudrex, CoinSwitch) | The exchange, after you sell on its USDT/INR market and withdraw | Full KYC (PAN, Aadhaar) | Low |
| P2P (Binance P2P, Bybit P2P) | An unknown buyer, from their own bank account or UPI | The platform's KYC | High |
Exchanges deduct 1% TDS and charge a trading fee; P2P buyers set their own price. Compare the final INR for the same amount at the same time, not the headline rate. Fees for each platform, checked monthly, are in the USDT to INR fees table, and the case against P2P is in P2P vs crypto offramp.
Is it legal and safe to sell USDT in India?
Yes, it's legal. No Indian law bans owning or selling USDT. Selling it for INR is a sale of a virtual digital asset: any gain is taxed at 30% plus cess, and 1% TDS can apply. See is it legal to sell USDT in India and crypto tax and TDS.
The risk is usually who pays you, not the sale itself. Bank accounts get frozen when rupees from a P2P buyer turn out to be linked to a fraud complaint. On Disburz the INR comes from our payout partner, never from a stranger, and every payout has a bank UTR you can show your bank. If it has already happened to you, read bank account frozen after crypto P2P.
